About me

Hello there!

Welcome! Grateful for your visit!

My name is Katina Vaselopulos. Originally from Greece, both, my husband and I have made our home in Chicago for the past 47 years. Our four children and nine grandchildren offer us countless adventures, joys and challenges.

In addition to modern Greek, I have studied Latin, Classical Greek. Coine, and Spanish -ancient and modern languages that I can read and understand fairly well.

I enjoy experiencing Life as it comes. In the fullest!

I am passionate about cooking, baking, and working with dark chocolate, all skills aquired through my many years as a homemaker.

I went back to school when my children had grown. I obtained a degree in Linguistics, ESL, and Russian Literature. My thesis, “Dostoyevsky’s Major Novels: Polemics against Liberal Thought,”  gifted me with high honors at Northeastern University of Illinois.

Volunteering, and teaching GSL for many years at our St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church, in Niles, Illinois, has been a blessed reward and education. With the help of our parishioners, I wrote and edited a cook of Greek cuisine, What’s Cooking in Niles, which is still on demand after twenty five years since published.

I love traveling and have explored most of Greece, Europe, and Mexico. Great experiences that have left their mark in my life!

I passionatelly love literature and poetry, classical music, the music and songs or great poets and composers of Greece, Theater, Modern and Classical Ballet and the visual arts.

Although I always wrote, I began writing wtih the purpose to heal my life and my body after a major emergency hip revision that left me in a wheelchair for over two months.

Daring to share my writing is very new to me and scary. I am grateful to my friends and Tribe Writers for their feedback and encouragement.

My soon-to-be-published book, Sailing Toward Ithaca ~ nurturing body and soul, is  a journey through the one year of my life after my emergency hip revision. It is about being open and alert to life’s possibilities; nurturing relationships with self, others, and God; striving for self-knowledge and inner spiritual growth; my failures and triumphs, joys and pains, my preoccupations for healthy living and wellness, and my love for my homeland, Greece, its beauty, culture and cuisine.

Looking forward to:

Becoming close friends with you!

Showing you the world through my eyes!

Sharing my life stories and wisdon that came to me from the great teachers in my life!

Getting to know you and hearing your life stories!

I count on you to help me grow by teaching me your wisdon!

You and I have the power to shift the world into a place of beauty and love!

Sending love and blessing,
